An e-mail Mike sent from Vietnam to family
and friends.
Hello All:
We had an absolutely awesome
day today. We left Hanoi at 6:00 a.m. for a 2-hour ride to the
orphanage in Lang Son. The ride was fine (if you can get past the
insane driving habits of everyone. There simply are no traffic
rules. We will never complain about Wendy's dad's driving anymore!)
We arrived at the orphanage around 8:30 and
waited about 10 minutes before they brought Andrew through the
doors. He was everything we could have ever asked for and more. As
soon as Wendy took him in her arms he smiled. It was an immediate
bond. The only time he cried is when I had him (ha, ha). But it was
just a little cry.
His nanny was a grandmother type named
Lem. She was a very nice woman and seemed to really take good care
of Andrew. We took lots of pictures and video for everyone to see.
They loved all of the gifts and donations we broughts especially the
Grump T-shirts.
We only got to stay with him about 45 minutes
and we had to leave for a meeting with the Justice Department. It
was sad leaving him but we know we will be back to get him in May.
Everything went very smoothly at the Justice Department. We handed
over all of our documents and were interviewed by an official. It
was a little nerve-racking but we passed with flying colors. The
country is very beautiful, especially the mountains and rice fields
up north. It is very peaceful looking. We are off now to do a little
shopping and sightseeing in the Old Quarter. We hope everyone is
doing well and we'll see you soon.
