Uzbekistan
Adoption Program Information

World Child International (WCI) is an accredited adoption agency in Uzbekistan. The Uzbekistan program has been one of the WCI’s most recent programs. WCI places children from many regions in Uzbekistan.

Children Available: Children of all ages are available. “Infant” generally refers to children less than 18 months at the time of referral. Most of the children available for adoption are Asian, or in some cases, may be Eurasian decent. Two children (related or unrelated) may be adopted concurrently. The children are from orphanages and have been relinquished, orphaned or abandoned. Children with special needs are also available. The Foreign Program Fees and the Agency Fees may be reduced to help with the adoption of these children.

Requirements: Married couples and single women may adopt. Age of applicant to adopt infant is generally lenient but may depend on the region. Families with other children in the home may apply. Length of marriage requirements is flexible and divorced persons may apply.

Process: Families hoping to adopt a child from Uzbekistan should have an approved homestudy and Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS) clearance. The adoption dossier specific to Uzbekistan is prepared and forwarded to WCI for registration at the Uzbekistan Embassy. The waiting period for a child referral is generally 2-4 months from the time the dossier is submitted to WCI though the program can sometimes experience longer delays. There are two adoption trips taken by the family which generally take 7days for the 1st trip and 14-21 days for the 2nd trip. At least one parent must travel for the first trip and both parents must travel for the 2nd trip. The first trip is normally within 2 months of receiving the child information. Generally, a photo, a medical report and sometimes, a video are provided. On the 1st trip, the family travels to the region where the child resides to meet the child and to file the Petition for the Adoption with the Mayor’s Office. The family returns to the U.S to wait for the adoption to finalize which usually takes up to 8 weeks. The family returns to Uzbekistan after the adoption is finalized to pick up the child and receive the adoption paperwork The family then travels to Tashkent for the child’s visa interview at the U. S. Embassy. All adoptions are finalized abroad.
