COSTS

The World Child's Application Fee is $225. Our Agency Fee of $5,000 is due upon our receipt of your approved homestudy. Other costs you should plan for generally fall into the following categories and are paid to outside sources. Please contact World Child directly for more detail on costs.

  • Homestudy and Post Placement Services: The charges for the agency-licensed homestudy and post-placement supervision will vary agency to agency and is dependent on locale. Therefore agencies in urban areas will have a range of fees that is considered standard for those areas and may charge more than agencies in rural areas where the range of fees is often lower. The range of homestudy fees across the country varies generally from $1000 - $3600. Remember, you must work with an agency licensed in your state to conduct the homestudy. If you live in DC, Virginia, Maryland or Mississippi, World Child may be able to conduct the homestudy for you. Please call us for details.

  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS, formerly known as INS): These fees are paid directly to CIS and are associated with getting a CIS approval to adopt overseas (I-171) and your child's visa to enter the U.S. Total fees are approximately $1000.

  • Document/Dossier Authentication: The cost for authenticating documents that go to the foreign government (birth certificates, reference letters, etc.) are paid directly to your local state and Embassy offices. These costs vary state to state. Depending on the country program requirements, you will generally spend as little as $2/document or as much as $50/document.

  • Foreign Program Fee: This is the program fee for the foreign country. It is paid to the separate overseas service provider (individual, corporation or government) and generally includes foster care and/or orphanage donations, professional legal services, foreign coordinator fees, routine medical care and exams (where available), document translation, and legal expenses in the foreign country. These costs vary from country to country.

  • Out-of-pocket expenses: These expenses include travel and lodging, other trip expenses, passport and visa fees, etc. These fees will vary depending on the country you choose.

An adoption federal tax credit of up to $10,160 is available to most families who adopt. Click here for more information on the tax credit.
